
Pirelli got back to winning ways in the Cumberland County League Premier Division when they entertained and beat Silloth 5-1.
Despite a strike by Reece Blake for Silloth, Pirelli maintained their battle for the title with the three points from the game, through goals from Andy Lewis, Jordan Pritchard, Luke Firth, Marc Shiel and Kieron Blair.
The two Development teams, Carlisle City and Workington Reds fought-out a close game involving five goals. The City squad took the honours 3-2 with a Tom Hickey double and the other from Aaron Roberts. The Reds replying through Jack Burns and James Bell.
In the Athletic derby game, Workington overcame their Maryport counterparts by a 5-3 margin in goals.
The Workington goals came through doubles from both Connor Hammell and Ryan Connelly, and the other from Tommy Whitehead. Maryport’s spirited response was supplied by an Ethan Weir hat trick.
Windscale Reserves re-scheduled their game against Whitehaven Miners under the lights at Egremont to avoid a clash with Windscale’s Wearside cup fixture.
Following a bright start by the Windscale youngsters, they succumbed to a heavy 7-2 defeat after leading 2-0 through Josh Wise and Dale Hooper.
However, Miners greater experience showed and they were leading 3-2 at the turn and went on to maintain their unbeaten run.
Windscale’s ex-goalkeeper Lewis Park is now a regular goal scorer for Miners and he notched a brace as did Jamie Thursby. The other goals came from Owen Woods, Mike Garroway and John Sparks.
Cleator Moor Celtic were unable to raise a team and cancelled their fixture with UniSun as six of their players were required to supplement the North West Counties team for their away fixture at Ilkley.
This was disappointing for UniSun who this season have had two home fixtures cancelled at short notice, the other being against Whitehaven Amateurs Reserves.
