Workington Reds have been running their own campaign to show racism the red card.
To raise awareness, the Reds teamed up with the Show Racism the Red Card organisation and have been high profile in recent home games.
Reds director Les Byers said: “People had thought that it had been stamped out of football for good – but it remains the most common form of discrimination at every level, from professional down to grassroots level.
“With the number of recent high-profile racism incidents it seems to show a return to the bad old days of the 1970s and 1980s.
“Few football fans realise that when they click through the turnstiles of any football ground, be it Wembley or Borough Park, everyone effectively agrees to accept a common set of ground regulations.
“We are no exception and our directives are prominently displayed at each of our six turnstiles.
“It’s a fantastic cause and we all felt we needed to play our part and help end the blight of racism in football. If we can change just one person’s mindset then that is a massive step in the right direction.”

SRTRC works in schools and other educational settings throughout the UK to offer a whole range of educational training, resources and activities, all designed to educate both young people and adults about the causes and the consequences of racism.
Racism is when words or actions are used to discriminate or disadvantage people because of their colour, culture or ethnic origin.
To press home the message at the home games Reds have been staging photo shoots with players, supporters, members of the press and club officials.
Rule 8 reads – ‘Discriminatory abuse, chanting or harassment of any kind, including without limitation in relation to race…is strictly forbidden and will result in arrest and/or ejection from the ground’.
