Work has started on a £1.2m ward transformation at Penrith Hospital.

The in-patient ward inside the Eden Unit will benefit from a £1.2m refurbishment which will create an improved environment for patients and colleagues.

Vanessa Connor, associate director of operations for community and ICCs, said: “We are all delighted that the Eden Unit is getting an upgrade which will provide a modern space and better environment.”

To enable the refurbishment to take place, the ward will be closed to admissions for about 16-20 weeks while the work is carried out.

Vanessa added: “I would like to thank the team in the Eden Unit who have all been so positive about the work taking place. They are also being very flexible while the unit is closed, currently providing much-needed care across two of our community hospital sites.

“Collaborative work is also progressing with county council colleagues to establish the creation of some intermediate care beds.”

Linda Bell, the chair of the Penrith Hospital League of Friends charity said: “The League of Friend’s are very excited about the refurbishment of the ward at Penrith Hospital finally going ahead. It is long overdue and will be a real morale boost for staff and patients when completed.”
