Carlisle band Hardwicke Circus has been announced as the support act for British legends Squeeze when they headline at the city’s Sands Centre later this month.
The gig on November 30 is set to be Squeeze’s only UK headline date for 2021.
Squeeze first formed in 1973, shortly after Chris Difford and Glenn Tilbrook had begun their songwriting partnership. By 1977 they had made their recording debut and enjoyed a string of hits, establishing the band as not just a passing footnote in new-wave history, but as an important and vital part of quintessential British music.
Following solo careers, the Ivor Novello Award-winning duo reunited in 2007 to relaunch Squeeze and have been touring, writing and recording together ever since, returning to the UK album charts and airwaves with 2015’s Cradle To The Grave and 2017’s The Knowledge.
This brand-new headline Carlisle date for Squeeze follows a major USA tour throughout August and September and precedes their appearance on Madness’ UK arena tour this December where they join as very fragrant guests.
Hardwicke Circus are fast building a reputation as the most exciting band to emerge from Cumbria in recent years. Having gained a large internet following, and fans all over the UK through playing countless live shows.
Their sound brings comparisons with the brio of the E Street Band and the dark passion of classic Doors, but with plenty of British authenticity and perhaps even a hint of Dexy’s in their high voltage attack.
Proudly based in the border town of Carlisle, Hardwicke Circus played over 150 gigs in 2019 – supporting Bob Dylan & Neil Young in Hyde Park, Madness, Alabama 3, Southside Johnny and The Asbury Jukes, Bob Geldof’s Boomtown Rats and The Blockheads.
They have gigged at the legendary Isle of Wight Festival, Glastonbury, Reading & Leeds, headlined the Yam Riot Stage at Kendal Calling and gained airplay on BBC Introducing, Radio 1, Radio 2 & 6 Music.
