Kendal’s North One West game at Birkenhead Park tomorrow has been called off by the hosts.
They have reported COVID infections at the club so the clash – between Kendal, who are second in the table, and Park, who are third – will have to be rearranged.
The Mint Bridge side, who were ready to welcome back key forward Reece Tomlinson, had been looking to halt a run of four successive defeats at Birkenhead Park.
North One West, however, will stage a Cumbrian derby with Penrith hosting Carlisle at Winters Park.
Both sides go into the game fresh having been able to take advantage of last week’s free League Saturday.
Penrith could have played their Cumbria Cup semi-final at Aspatria but that is being allowed to be staged later, probably during the Christmas/New Year fortnight break from League fixtures.
Carlisle are still awaiting the outcome of their postponed game at Firwood Waterloo for although told their appeal against a five point deduction had failed, no change has been made to the points they have won so far.
They are fifth bottom on 12 points, three places and 12 points below their hosts who will be pleased to get back to a home game after successive away defeats at lowly Bowdon and Glossop.
At least Carlisle’s last game a fortnight ago did produce a win, albeit a narrow one at home to Vale of Lune, but much will depend on the strength of the two sides who take the field as both have suffered key injuries this season.
Keswick are the leading Cumbrian side in North Two West and appear to have the best game in prospect tomorrow.
In sixth place Keswick travel to Tarleton who are immediately below them in the table, five points worse off from the same number of games.
Cockermouth remain bottom but they had the tonic of a second win, and a clean sheet, the last time they played two weeks ago, beating De La Salle 24-0 at Strawberry How.
Tomorrow’s task is exceedingly tougher – it’s away and against the team who lie third in the table.
Winnington Park are riding high with four wins out of seven but although scoring points (188) they are also conceding (182) which perhaps will encourage Chris Wright and his travelling team.
It’s remarkably tight down the bottom with three points separating the bottom six clubs. Warrington and St. Benedict’s both have 13 – De La Salle and Orrell have 11 – Bolton and Cockermouth have 10.
Benny’s have home advantage tomorrow against Leigh who have four wins from their seven games to sit one place above Keswick.
In Durham/Northumberland One Aspatria will certainly be looking to continue their improved form when they visit Whitley Bay Rockcliffe who are bottom of the table, the only side with single figure points.
There are no games scheduled in Cumbria One, although they did play last week when everyone else was not.
Results were: Creighton 17, Egremont 35; Hawcoat Park 0, Upper Eden 15; Whitehaven 25, Workington 12; Wigton 33, Millom 7.
