Workington Town are rank outsiders on their return to the Betfred Championship – and the bookies’ tip to go right back down to League One.

Sky Bet has listed them bottom of the pile at 150/1 for the 2022 title, and in a likely three-way battle to avoid the last two relegation places.

Sheffield Eagles are quoted at 125/1 while Barrow, who finished as 2021 League One champions, are given at 100/1. Those three are the longest, three-figure odds listed.

Whitehaven, despite a splendid 2021 season to finish sixth, are only tenth in the betting this time round with Jonty Gorley’s side quoted at 66/1.

Leigh Centurions, just relegated from the Super League, are not favourites to win the title, but Featherstone Rovers are 6/5 to go one better than they did last season. Leigh are quoted at 2/1.

The other odds for next season’s competition are as follows: Halifax 10/1, York 12/1, Bradford 14/1, Newcastle 16/1, Widnes 20/1, London 25/1, Batley 40, Dewsbury 80.
