A Cumbrian charity took part in a BBC Children in Need programme with a former Love Island star and mental health ambassador.
Self-Harm Awareness For All (SAFA) met with UK Youth Mental Health Ambassador Dr Alex George to explore the effects of the pandemic on young people’s mental wellbeing and look at the services SAFA Cumbria provides.
“SAFA are really proud to have been part of the BBC Children In Need programme with Dr Alex George the ambassador for mental well-being in young people,” said SAFA chair Ian Burns.
“Alex is as passionate about mental wellbeing as we are at SAFA and he was such a personable guy who has experienced the trauma of his brother committing suicide and is now doing so much positive work in this area to help others.
“The BBC programme was really well made and incredibly moving.

“To hear Rosie and her mum speak so positively about the support she had received from SAFA has made all of us at SAFA so proud. We always knew we had some incredible people who deliver life-changing support to people but to hear Rosie say she thinks her counselling saved her life was so powerful.
“A special shout out to Baz, our counsellor, who worked with Rosie and Jackie, our family support worker, who worked with Rosie’s mum Jill.
“SAFA will continue to work hard to help more people of all ages who need some support – the demand is increasing all the time and we are really motivated to meet the challenge.”
The programme was shown on BBC One on November 14.
