In-form striker Scott Quigley has revealed why he left Barrow over the summer.
Quigley, the 29-year-old two-goal star of Wednesday’s televised FA Cup tie between Stockport and Bolton, believes County are a bigger club than Barrow.
Although he dropped down from League Two to the National League, Quigley has told The Sun it was a good move for him.
He reportedly said: “The lads know we have the backing, and the infrastructure here is ridiculous for a tier five team. I may have dropped down a league but in my eyes, I’ve moved up a club.
“Stockport’s far superior off the field compared to Barrow. No disrespect to them and I loved my time there but there’s a difference between getting 2,000 at home and 6,000 week in, week out.”
After the thrilling 5-3 win over Bolton last night Quigley was named man of the match by Martin Keown, the former Arsenal and England defender. His two goals helped County twice come from a two-goal deficit to win the tie in extra-time.
He has now scored five goals in eight games for the Edgeley Park club so far and notched 20 goals in all competitions for Barrow a couple of seasons ago to help them earn promotion from the National League.
As well as Quigley, County have also lured Paddy Madden, John Rooney, Ben Barclay, Oli Crankshaw and Antoni Sarcevic away from the Football League this season.
The win over Bolton earned Stockport a trip to League One side Rotherham United in the second round on December 4.
It was quite a Barrow reunion for Quigley last night as former Holker Street teammate Joel Dixon was in goal for Bolton, who are now managed by Ian Evitt – the man who led Barrow to promotion.
