Cockermouth’s Cocker Bridge is completely closed to traffic and pedestrians.
It is believed the bridge, at the eastern edge of the town, has suffered damage following the recent flooding.

A statement from Cumbria County Council last night (Saturday) said: “As a result of cracking in the road surface over the bridge it has been closed to traffic, including pedestrians, with immediate effect as a precautionary measure.
“Barriers will be installed tonight and diversion signage put in place in the morning. Further investigations will take place tomorrow and we will provide further updates.”
It is understood concrete blocks will be put in place and pedestrians are asked to use Barrel Bridge by the brewery and the footbridge leading from the Riverside Car Park to access the town.
