New Kendal Town boss Warren Beattie was quick to praise his players after they gave him his first win.
A 2-1 home victory against fellow strugglers Market Drayton pulled the Mintcakes off bottom place in NPL West.
He said: “To be honest the players attitudes have been spot on since I took over and they got what they deserved.
“I could see they were nervous early on and we conceded a goal. But after they we really dominated the game and could really have scored three or four.
“We have a Lancashire Cup game against Charnock on Tuesday but I am really focusing on City of Liverpool away next Saturday.
“Some of the players I have brought in haven’t played much football lately so they will get a run-out on Tuesday but not a full game, because I have Saturday in mind.”
Beattie had watched Kendal for the first time at Trafford last week when they lost 4-2 and was in charge on Tuesday for a gutsy 2-0 defeat to leaders Marine.
“It’s just great to get that first win but now we have to build on that and keep moving forward,” said Beattie.
They are currently next to bottom, a point better off than Market Drayton and five points behind Prescot Cables.
Andre James had given Market Drayton a ninth minute lead during the Mintcakes’ nervous start.
But they levelled on 27 minutes when Chris Wraighte scored from the penalty spot, sending the keeper the wrong way.
Tom Fagan got up well to head in the second after 40 minutes and give his side a half-time boost.
Although they dominated the second half, and had a couple of good opportunities, Kendal couldn’t add to their tally but were never in any trouble at the back.
