
Labour has gained a seat on Allerdale council after a by-election.
Billy Pegram has won the Maryport South ward on the council with 273 votes. Independent Eric Galletly picked up 149 votes and Steve Newton for the Conservatives won 94 votes.
Out of an electorate of 3,045, there were 516 votes cast.
The turnout was 16.95 per cent.
