Before and after Silverhowe, Grasmere. Fix the Fells work

The Lake District Foundation is setting its sights on raising £25,000 for Fix the Fells this festive season.

The last few years have seen many more people discovering the amazing upland paths of the Lake District and so the work of the Fix the Fells partnership is needed more than ever to help maintain and protect the footpaths on our beautiful mountains.

Fix the Fells starred in “The Lakes with Simon Reeve” on Sunday. As Simon walked up the main Scafell path passing hundreds of walkers, he came across the Fix the Fells team working on the Scafell mountain path.

After helping the team and seeing many more people using the route, it highlights the impact we all have on the mountains.

The Big Give enables donors to double their donation and the Lake District Foundation has secured two Match Funding Champions, The Langdale Estate and LDF Chair, Gill Houston who walked all the “The Birketts” peaks.

Between them, they have raised £12,400 of match funding that will mean any donation is doubled.

The Big Give Christmas challenge only runs for a week from November 30 so donate now to help these amazing volunteers and rangers working all year round to stop path erosion in the Lake District.

Sarah Swindley, CEO, Lake District Foundation, said: “It is so important that we continue to care for our path network in the Lake District. Fix the Fells staff and volunteers do incredible work in the most challenging conditions.

“Our generous supporters have given this year’s Big Give a great head start and we know that if we hit the target of £25,000 for the project that will help us keep the Lake District special now and in the future.

“The Lake District Foundation has over 20 years experience working with local partners and are always looking for new ways to work together to help a achieve our goals. Much of the money we give away in grants is raised by local businesses.

“Please get in touch if you want to help us do more of this. There are several different fundraising mechanisms designed to work with your business, including opt-in donations, events, and sponsored products to name a few.

“If you would like to find out more, please visit the charity’s website, lakedistrictfoundation.org/fundraising-in-your-business or contact Steve Tonkin via email, steve.tonkin@lakedistrictfoundation.org.”
