It may not be Santa’s toy workshop, but thanks to a group of handymen, some lucky youngsters in Cumbria are going to have a wheely great Christmas.

The members of the Men In Sheds group from the Northern Fells Group have handed over 15 children’s bikes to the CFM Cash for Kids Mission Christmas appeal.

The aim of the appeal is to collect presents and cash donations from across the county to help provide presents for disadvantaged youngsters in Cumbria.

The Men In Sheds Group provided 13 bikes for the appeal last year and have handed over even more this year.

Three of the bikes will go to older children who have been victims of domestic abuse.

The regulars at the Men In Sheds group repair bikes, furniture and all sorts of general items that are brought to their base on the village green at Caldbeck. All donations go straight into the NFG fund.

The NFG is a community charity serving 3,700 residents in a rural area that covers Ireby and Uldale, Boltons, Westward & Rosley, Sebergham and Welton, Caldbeck, Castle Sowerby and Mungrisdale.

Its aims include combatting rural social isolation and deprivation, to improve access to services, to enable people to remain independent, living in their own homes and in the area.

MiS regular Shaun Middlemore helped organise the bike collection and said: “Obviously this year we wanted to get involved again and were more than happy to help.

“Here’s hoping MiS can make a small difference to children’s lives.”
