Firefighter warning after Carlisle washing machine blaze

Firefighters in Carlisle have issued a warning after they attended a fire involving a washing machine.

At about 1.15pm yesterday crews from Carlisle East and Carlisle West were mobilised to a property fire on Linden Terrace.

In attendance, firefighters discovered that the fire involved a washing machine in the kitchen. Crews removed the washing machine to open-air before extinguishing.

A statement from Carlisle East Fire Station said: “We always advise never to leave your property with the washing machine or tumble dryer running. Fortunately the occupant of the property fire this afternoon was present when theirs was on, and they had working smoke detectors to alert them to the danger, giving them warning so that they could take action to mitigate the damage and get out of the property.

“If this was not the case, we would have been turning out to a very serious property fire.”

If you live in the Carlisle area, and your alarms aren’t working, or you don’t have any – the fire service can fit them for free: Carlisle East – 01228 221688 Carlisle West – 01228 221622
