A Cumbrian accountants celebrated its 40th anniversary with a “deed a day”.

Founded in 1981, Dodd & Co Chartered Accountants have grown from a handful of staff in their small office in Chatsworth Square to a firm that now houses 12 partners and over 190 staff, across their two offices in Carlisle and Penrith.

To mark their 40th birthday, the firm created their 40-4-40 campaign, which will see them completing 40 good deeds over 40 days. The initiative was thought up as a way of giving back to local communities and the surrounding areas, with a list of worthy causes compiled from staff suggestions.

Over the 40 days, Dodd & Co and their staff will be donating, volunteering, and supporting businesses and enterprises within the community. They kickstarted the campaign with a donation of 40 trees to be planted through the Queen’s Green Canopy initiative, which was set up in celebration of her Platinum Jubilee.

This was a special way to kick off the beginning of the 40-4-40 campaign as the firm have always believed in “growing their own”.

Other deeds to date include several hampers containing treats to NHS teams, charity shop staff and other key workers; donating items from local charity wish lists, covering volunteer slots for the Poppy appeal and local events such as Park Run. They have also been donating equipment and supplies to schools, youth groups and animal shelters and they still have a few weeks left to go!

Heidi Marshall, Partner at Dodd & Co, said “We are so excited to be celebrating 40 years in business, and what better way to mark the occasion than recognising the amazing work that goes on in our local communities. From emergency services, food banks, animal shelters and end of life care, we wanted to try and cover as many areas as we could over the 40 day period, to help celebrate just how brilliant Cumbria is to both live and work.

“With the help of our Doddies, there have been some truly worthy suggestions of good deeds and we are eager for everyone to see what we have lined up over the course of the campaign!”

The 40 days covers the weeks from November 1 – December 10.
