Last night’s Sky Bet League Two game for Barrow against Salford City at The Dunes Hotel Stadium was postponed due to a waterlogged pitch.
With water standing on the playing surface and further downpours due before the scheduled before kick-off, a local referee was appointed to inspect the pitch and a decision was subsequently taken to postpone the game.
Tickets purchased for the game will remain valid for the rearrangement and at the moment a new date has not been announced.
Both teams were keyed-up for the game – the Bluebirds desperate to end a poor run in the League after a good FA Cup performance, and Salford expected to react to their Cup defeat by non-League Chesterfield.
Barrow are hoping weather conditions will improve as they are also scheduled to be at home on Saturday with Swindon Town the scheduled visitors.
Whilst Barrow had their mid-week game postponed Swindon were thumped 4-1 at Leyton Orient on Tuesday and have slipped out of the automatic play-off places.
Indeed Barrow also have a home game next Wednesday when they host Ipswich Town in the FA Cup second round replay with the winners earning a trip to Championship strugglers Barnsley.
Ipswich apparently are covering the cost of two coaches for supporters travelling to Barrow “as a way of thanking fans for their ongoing support”.
The club has been given 662 tickets for the Blues’ first ever competitive visit to the Cumbrians’ home, 500 on a standing terrace and 112 seated.
