A man accused of entering a Carlisle home as an intruder while armed with a knife is set to stand trial in front of a jury next year.
Stewart Brown, 25, faced a total of six charges when he appeared in front of a judge at the city’s crown court today.
One charge alleges aggravated burglary by entering an address off South Street in Carlisle and stealing a phone and bank cards, while at the time being in possession of a weapon offence, namely a knife.
A second charge alleges illegal possession of a knife in public, at South Street, on the same date, June 18, 2019.
Two others allege the theft of of a Samsung television and £80 cash, respectively between June 10 and 13 of 2019, and on June 12 that year.
Brown also jointly faces two allegations of fraud with 30-year-old Lisa Nugent.
The pair are accused of making false representations which are said to involve unauthorised transactions using a bank card at two city fillings stations, on June 18, 2019. It is alleged that gains of around £30 were made.
Nugent also faces two allegations of theft: of a electrical equipment comprising an Anker speaker, two Samsung tablets and a sound bar; and of £70 cash. These are alleged to have been taken from a female during a period covering several months.
When both Brown and Nugent appeared in the court dock in front of Judge Richard Archer, they pleaded not guilty to all the charges they face.
A trial date was provisionally fixed during the short hearing. This is set to start on August 15, 2022.
In the meantime, both Brown, of Eskdale Avenue, and Nugent, of Silloth Street, both Carlisle; were granted bail by Judge Archer.
