
After a year in which coronavirus ravaged fixtures the weather also intervened on the last weekend of 2021 fixtures.
Two games had to be postponed as the Cleator Moor Celtic Reserves v UniSun Athletic and Wigton Harriers v Pirelli were called off due to waterlogged pitches.
Cockermouth vs Aspatria
In the Premier Division Aspatria maintained their challenge for the championship with a well-earned 2-1 victory at Highfield away to Cockermouth.
Goals from Andrew Trestianu and Dan Pearson earned another three points for Aspatria, while Luke Ivison’s strike for Cockermouth took the game to the wire.
Gosforth vs Workington Reds Development
Gosforth are emerging from their early season player availability problems and enjoyed a fine 5-3 home win against Workington Reds Development. A Sam Tallentire hat-trick and effort from Rhys Singleton and Jack Denwood made up the Gosforth total. Carl Lightfoot and a double from Matty Foster kept the Reds in contention.
Northbank vs Maryport Athletic
There was very little Christmas spirit in the game between Northbank and Maryport Athletic. With neither side being prepared to offer an inch to each other, it ended in a 0-0 stalemate.
Whitehaven Miners vs Silloth
In Division One Whitehaven Miners remained top with a heavy 8-1 away defeat of Silloth.
Goalkeeper turned striker, Lewis Park hit four, there was a brace from Owen Woods and strikes from Matthew Williams and Oliver Todd completed the Miners’ tally. Silloth, who have also experienced availability issues, responded with a lone effort from Kris Nichol.
Mirehouse vs Whitehaven Amateurs Reserves
Mirehouse made the short trip to neighbours Whitehaven Amateurs Reserves taking all the points in a close contest to maintain third position. Reece Fitzsimmons, Nathan Dryden and Ciaran Corlett scored the Mirehouse goals in a 3-2 win with Joe Martin and Zach Benson responding for the hosts.
There are no further games scheduled over the Christmas period with the programme commencing on Saturday, January 8.
