Workington and District Sunday League thanks chairman Ian Blair

Workington and District Sunday League has said thank you to long-serving chairman Ian Blair.

A stalwart of the old Seaton club for many years as player and official, Ian had two spells on the League committee.

He was presented with a glass tankard inscribed with “Thanks for services as Chairman of the Workington Sunday Football League.”

The tankard was presented by the new chair of the Sunday League, Richard Manchester.

Long-serving secretary Ron Caffrey said: “We are fortunate in having two good football men in Ian and Richard who have been heavily involved in the game and with Workington Sunday League.

“Ian was chairman for over eight years and had been involved in the Sunday League for a very long time, especially at Seaton where he was a player and official of the Welfare team.

“I remember asking him if he fancied getting involved again about 10 years ago and he agreed. He soon took over as chairman and has been a very good help to me in my role as secretary.

“Richard has been equally involved in the League but mainly at Dearham where he now helps run a number of teams from the Sunday League down to other age groups.”

The Workington and District Sunday League was formed in the early 1960s, largely through the efforts of the Cumberland FA’s Bob Johnstone and local journalist David Cullimore.
