Adam Collin, the goalkeeper who served both Workington and Carlisle United, has hung up his boots.
The 37-year-old announced that he was leaving NPL Premier Division side Basford and retiring from playing.
He had joined from Kettering Town on a 12-month deal back in May and made 25 appearances in all competitions this season.
He will now focus on all coaching aspects of the game, having joined Mansfield Town academy as Head of Goalkeeping back in November after leading Basford’s own youngsters on his arrival at Greenwich Avenue.
Penrith-born, Collin began his career at Newcastle United but left St. James’ Park without making a senior appearance.
He then moved into the non-league pyramid with Workington in 2004, making his debut in a 4-0 win over Matlock Town and made 211 league appearances for the Reds over five years when he was a key figure in the club’s rise up the Leagues to Conference North.
He signed for Carlisle United in 2009, the first of two spells at Brunton Park – playing 133 games first time and then 79 in the second.
In between he played 71 times for Rotherham, 73 for Notts County and three on loan with Aberdeen.
He joined Kettering for the 20/21 season but failed to feature due to the curtailed National League North campaign.
After announcing his retirement, his last club said: “All at Basford United would like to thank Adam for his efforts whilst with the club – playing and coaching – and we wish him all the very best with his retirement and future endeavours.”
Collin tweeted: “This was a tough decision to make but I have had an amazing career and from when I started as a young kid in Penrith to where I got to today has been truly fantastic and have made some amazing memories.”
