Plans for six new bungalows on a Workington estate have been lodged with Allerdale council.
Social landlord Westfield Housing Association wants to build the two-bedroom homes on the former Westfield Welfare site.
The association said it had identified a need in the area for accessible housing provision, serving its elderly population who wished to remain in their area where family and friends were nearby.
It said: “This application is the latest of a series of developments Westfield hope to make over the next few years to increase the diversity of the housing portfolio and to enhance provision within the Westfield estate.
“The provision of more accessible accommodation not only aids the older population but frees existing family homes for new residents.
“The bungalows will be designed to ensure adaptability for the changing needs of the residents, adopting many of the principles of lifetime homes while ensuring energy efficiency and low carbon technology keep fuel costs and carbon emissions low.”
The developer said that care has been taken to have only a positive impact on the area.
“That material palette has been chosen to match the existing dwellings with rendered wall, roof, tiles and brick boundary walls.
“Parking areas will be block paving to contrast with the existing tarmac roads and paved footpaths.
“The intention is for the new dwellings to blend in with the existing surrounding rather than stand out.”
