A Penrith coronavirus vaccination centre is set to move.

Currently situated at PFK’s auction mart, it will be moving to a new site at Newton Rigg’s Campus Sports Hall in the New Year.

The pharmacy team currently situated at the auction mart site will move on January 1 with vaccinations continuing at the new Newton Rigg site from January 2.

People who have already booked appointments will receive a notification e-mail notifying them of the new location and site change for their vaccination appointments. The Newton Rigg site is close by with lots of parking and continues to provide another option near Penrith for people receiving their initial COVID vaccinations and boosters.

Helena Gregory, Pharmacy and Medicines Lead for NHS North Cumbria Clinical Commissioning Group said: “We send a huge thank you to PFK for enabling us to use their auction mart site over the course of 2021.

“At one point in the vaccination programme, it was used as a large vaccination site and was integral to getting a lot of people vaccinated in north Cumbria.

“As we head into 2022 we are very grateful to the team at Newton Rigg’s Campus Sports Hall where our vaccination site will be hosted going forward. It’s been really encouraging over the course of the year to see the support for the programme and the enthusiasm of the community to get their covid vaccinations.

“We of course are now encouraging people to get their boosters to help in the fight against the Omicron variant but are reminding people, who might have changed their minds, that the vaccine offer doesn’t expire and it’s not too late to get your first jabs.

“All the teams across the county continue to work incredibly hard to ensure that we can offer this important layer of protection as far and as wide as possible.”

‘We’ll be ready to greet people’

Mahdi Heshmati, Clinical Lead at iPharmaC, the pharmacist in charge of the operation at the site added: “The team will be ready to greet and vaccinate people at the new site from the second of January and we continue to encourage everyone to come forward to book in for their vaccinations to help protect themselves, family, friends, communities and beyond.

“A big thank you to all involved in this huge vaccination programme over the last year including all the vaccinating teams on the ground, all the people behind the scenes and of course all of the fantastic volunteers that we have at sites as well.”

The address and postcode of the new Newton Rigg site, which goes live from January 2 is:
