Rio Hardy, the West Cumbrian star left without a club after Coventry United went into liquidation, could be offered a WSL lifeline.
The 25-year-old forward has been training with Aston Villa over the last few days and the Midlands club is looking for new forward power.
Hardy had joined the doomed Championship club Coventry United at the start of the season after a successful playing spell in Cyprus.
But it all went pear-shaped when the Coventry club announced unexpectedly it was going into liquidation and 30 staff, including players, were being made redundant.
Another Coventry forward Katie Wilkinson was also invited to train at Villa and played under their manager Carla Ward at Sheffield United.
Hardy had made a fine start to her Coventry career scoring five goals – half of their total in the Championship.
Last season Villa finished 10th of 12 in the WSL and after ten games this time round occupy the same position and have only scored six goals.
Workington-born Hardy joined Blackburn Rovers at the start of her career and then spent time in College football in the USA before successful spells in Iceland and Cyprus.
Her twin Steffi who helped Apollon win the Cyprus Super Cup in November had been linked with a move back to the UK and a possible reunion with Rio at Coventry.
That obviously won’t happen but it’s more than likely she will be playing in England sooner rather than later.
