
Flood alerts have been issued for the coast of Cumbria – urging people to be prepared.
High tides are forecast from 11pm and will be accompanied by strong winds and large waves.
The next high tide is also expected to be higher than normal and may result in further alerts.
Areas most at risk are low lying areas along the coast including Allonby, Maryport, Flimby, Workington, Parton, Whitehaven, Ravenglass and Annaside.
Flood gates are being closed.
People are urged to be careful along beaches, promenades, coastal footpaths and roads as large waves and sea spray could be dangerous.
A flood alert is also in force for the Upper River Derwent, Stonethwaite Beck and Derwentwater.
River and lake levels are falling on the Upper River Derwent, Stonethwaite Beck and Derwentwater but the lake level remains high.
The lake level is expected to continue to fall slowly.
Areas still affected are locations around Derwentwater, with low lying land expected to be most affected.
