Kendal Mayor Cllr Doug Rathbone joined a number of invited guests to back the town’s football club in their Northern Premier League Division One clash with Newcastle Town.
Cllr Rathbone said: “These have been difficult times for many lower league teams, from the grassroots, through the women’s game, even up to the EFL. It’s great that Kendal has such a vibrant footballing tradition and it was an honour to be asked by Kendal Town FC to watch the match and represent the backing of the Town Council.
“The set-up at Parkside Road is showing real signs of promise as we emerge from the last couple of Covid-blighted years. It’s a really good afternoon out for the footie-loving family.”
Kendal Town Council recently affirmed its support to football at the supporters’ level by backing the Manifesto for Football, promoted by the Fair Game campaign.
Mayoral backing didn’t translate to success on the pitch sadly, as the home team went down to two second-half goals from the visitors.
