Three of the semi-finalists in the County League’s Benevolent Cup were decided with Cockermouth, Northbank and Pirelli advancing.

The replayed tie, involving Workington Reds Development and Whitehaven Miners, was resolved with the Copeland side coming out on top.  Miners now entertain Mirehouse next weekend to confirm the last semi-final berth

Following Whitehaven Miners appeal to the League, regarding the outcome of the original game, the replay went ahead at the St Benedict’s Astro.

The Reds took an early lead through Louis Webster with parity restored when Lewis Park levelled the scores from the penalty spot.

Miners gained the upper hand when Owen Woods fired in from 25 yards and Alan Cardy stretched the score to 3-1.  Play ebbed and flowed with the goals from Rueben Butterworth and Mathew Foster for the Reds taking the game into extra time with the score at 3-3.

It was Miners who progressed with Woods, Park and Cardy adding to their earlier strikes to take the tie 6-3.

Division One title contenders UniSun Athletic travelled to Highfield to take on Premier Division Cockermouth.

The home team progressed despite a spirited performance from UniSun who scored through Shane Dorward and a penalty converted by Luke Ruddick.

Cockermouth’s Kyran Bertram registered a double, supported by a strike from Luke Graham.  The game was eventually decided by an unfortunate own goal giving the final score a flattering 4-2 win to Cockermouth.

Gosforth moved their tie with Northbank to the 3G pitch at Cleator Moor but in a close game, the switch appears to have suited the visitors more as they ran out 5-3 victors.

Rhys Singleton, Harvey Stainton and player manager Jack Denwood hit the net for Gosforth.  Northbank progressed with a hat trick from Ryan Johnston and goals from Brenden Gill and Jay Green.

Pirelli had a surprisingly resounding home victory defeating fellow Premier Division Championship-seeking Workington Athletic 8-2.

Tom Lucock notched a hat trick and a Kelvin James double was augmented by a goal each from Jordan Pritchard-Farish, Ellis Pearson and Jordy Atkinson for Pirelli.  Kevin Connelly and Tommy Whitehead reduced the arears for Athletic.

There were two games in the Premier Division and in one Wigton Harriers put the brakes on Aspatria’s quest for the title in a local derby.

The Harriers made the short trip to St Mungo’s Park and went home with a point from a 1-1 stalemate.  Regular scorer Andrew Trestianu was on target for Aspatria, and a Liam Scott effort ensured the Harriers earned a draw.

Maryport Athletic improved their League position with a 2-0 home win over Carlisle City Development as Ethan Weir and Joe Hetherington found the net.

In Division One, Silloth suffered a 3-0 home defeat to Whitehaven Amateurs Reserves with Connor Edwards, Shaun Carter and Ben Powell supplying the goals.
