Barrow striker Offrande Zanzala suffered a worrying knee injury in Exeter City’s 2-0 win over Walsall.
Zanzala has just recently joined the Grecians on loan from Barrow but lasted for only 15 minutes against the Sadlers on Saturday.
Having scored on his debut last weekend, the Congolese striker had started brightly again and would have had his second goal for the Devon side but for a brilliant save by Walsall’s Carl Rushworth.
The Exeter manager Matt Taylor told his club website: “It’s a worrying one because he has jarred his knee and it doesn’t sound great. We missed his physical play and will miss him for however long he is out for.
“We added him to supplement the front line so it is a disappointing aspect of the game, but injuries happen, and we have to be good enough to fill gaps when we need to.”
Taylor added that he will now assess how bad the injury is and how long he will be out for, before deciding whether they need to try for another forward in what’s left of the transfer window.
Speaking to the club website before his injury struck, Zanzala had said that he was enjoying his time at Exeter and focused on doing what he could to get the promotion push, and that ‘everything here ticks the boxes’.
The 25-year-old, who had played for Carlisle United last season, said: “I am enjoying it and settled in. I got my goal last weekend and that is key as a striker to get going.
“The city is nice and I’m enjoying it so far, and it was a dream to get off the mark early doors and first game, and in front of the fans as well, and three points which was needed for the team.
“As a striker, you want to get as many goals as you can. The most important thing is to get goals and keep going in terms of what I set as my targets. Exeter was a no-brainer to come here and challenge for the league.
“The manager is ambitious for us to do well and for us to get promoted, so something I wanted to be a part of. It is not that it didn’t work out at Barrow, but I needed something different and I just needed a new environment and a change and do what is best for me as a player.”
