Cumbria saw its highest number of coronavirus deaths for 10 weeks as new cases fell by 18 per cent.

There were 13 deaths where coronavirus was the cause of death in the week ending on January 14, the highest number since October 29.

There were 4,281 new cases in Cumbria in the week ending January 21, a decrease of 959 (-18% from 5,240 new cases in the previous week).

Cases by district

  • Allerdale – 752 (769 per 100,000)
    Previous week – 1,122 (1,147 per 100,000)
  • Barrow-in-Furness – 559 (838 per 100,000)
    Previous week – 687 (1,030 per 100,000)
  • Carlisle – 1,233 (1,136 per 100,000)
    Previous week – 1,345 (1,239 per 100,000)
  • Copeland – 533 (783 per 100,000)
    Previous week – 730 (1,073 per 100,000)
  • Eden – 391 (727 per 100,000)
    Previous week – 455 (846 per 100,000)
  • South Lakeland – 813 (775 per 100,000)
    Previous week – 901 (859 per 100,000)

Hospital admissions

Data for the week ending January 25:

  • The number of new patients admitted with COVID-19 in North Cumbria Integrated Care (NCIC) remained the same as the previous week while the average number of patients with COVID-19 in beds in NCIC decreased by 31 from the previous week;
  • The number of new patients admitted with COVID-19 in University Hospitals of Morecambe Bay NHS Foundation Trust (UHMB) decreased by 11 from the previous week and the average number of patients with COVID-19 in beds in UHMB decreased by 15 from the previous week.
