Copeland MP Trudy Harrison is hosting an online session next week to champion apprenticeships in the constituency.
Mrs Harrison is marking National Apprenticeship Week by welcoming Alex Burghart, the Parliamentary Under Secretary of State for Skills, to the event where they will speak with apprentices and apprentice providers from across Copeland to share their experiences and to provide first-hand information and advice on the opportunities apprenticeships provide.
Joining Mrs Harrison and Mr Burghart for the discussion on Thursday, February 10 will be local apprentices and apprentice providers from a range of sectors, including nuclear, utilities, health, leisure and tourism.
Mrs Harrison said: “I have always been a strong advocate of National Apprenticeship Week and I am delighted to be supporting this important annual week of celebration by championing apprenticeships here in Copeland.
“There have been 9,540 apprenticeship starts in Copeland since 2010, and the benefits are significant. Apprenticeships help individuals develop skills and knowledge for a rewarding career and help employers build a workforce for the future. They are also a crucial way to address skills shortages, invest in future talent, and help more people access high skilled, high wage jobs.”
People have the opportunity to put apprentice-related questions to Mrs Harrison, Mr Burghart and the panel by submitting questions in advance by emailing Trudy.harrison.mp@parliament.uk by 5pm on Monday, February 7.
The session will be broadcast live on Mrs Harrison’s Facebook page at 9am on Thursday, February 10 and a recording will remain on the page’s feed to be viewed afterwards.
