Global adventurer Jamie Ramsay to speak in Penrith

Adventurer Jamie Ramsay will be sharing tales of astonishing feats of human endurance in Penrith later this month.

Ramsay, who has completed more than 43,000km of human-powered adventuring across 31 countries and 25 different adventures, will be appearing at Rheged as part of the Kendal Mountain UK Tour.

In particular, he will be sharing tales from his Atlantic to Andes cycle tour; having already run through five South American countries on his Running the Americas adventure, Ramsay was keen to explore three he hadn’t visited.

In February 2017 Ramsay cycled from his flat to Victoria station, got the train to Gatwick Airport and flew to Sao Paolo. From there he cycled 3,700km across Brazil, Paraguay and up into the Andes of Bolivia.

The adventure was completely solo and unsupported with challenges including the Chaco in Paraguay, climbing the Andes (4,700m) and cycling across the Salar de Uyuni during the wet season.

The trip finished with cycling from 4,700m down to 1,200m on Bolivia’s Death Road.

Ramsay, an ambassador for Cotswold Outdoor, will share the joys and moments of despair that are part of an adventurer’s life at Rheged on February 18.

The event, part of the Kendal Mountain Festival UK Tour, also features films and extra entertainment.

Steve Scott, director of Kendal Mountain Festival, presents the Tour events and says, “‘Kendal’ is all about adventure; stories of extreme human endurance, breathtaking environments and adrenaline-fuelled excitement. Our tour events are mini-festivals that distil this spirit of adventure and exploration into one unique evening.”
