The Workington and District Sunday League suffered a major blow in the aftermath of the Christmas/New Year break and resumption of fixtures.
Two Premier League clubs Seaton Rangers and Glasson Gardeners have resigned and leave only six teams in the division. The table will be updated later to remove their playing records.
It does mean that players from both those clubs are now free to join other teams.
At a Sunday League committee meeting, it was decided that the League Cup semi-final between Deer Orchard and Seaton Rangers be awarded to the Cockermouth side who will go through to the final.
Orchard have also made progress in the President’s Cup with a 3-2 win at Sun Inn Athletic. Brian Straughton, Luke Graham and Luke Ivison scored the goals with Daniel Stockdale and Josh Kenny replying for Athletic.
In addition, the Orchard got a boost in the Premier Division without playing as their main rivals Northside were beaten 2-1 at Dearham. Jack Dunstan and Jack Brown got the goals with Chad Grisedale replying for the champions.
Jamie Moore, the Northside secretary said: “Well done to Richard and his team. Dearham gave a brilliant performance.”
Salterbeck were 3-2 winners at Blue Bell when Kieran Mewse scored both goals for the losers.
Highfield got back to winning ways beating Junction 3-0 in Division One with goals from Tom Stephenson, Andrew Skillen and Harry Braithwaite.
Maryport Athletic came out on top 4-2 against Flimby Social with goals from Lewis Mattinson (2), Cieran Laverty and Stefan Miller. Max Litt and Lazo Rayner responded for Flimby.
The only hat-trick of the day came from Nathan Dryden as he helped JJ’s to a 5-3 win over Senhouse. Callum Killick and Keenan Musgrave were also on the score sheet with Leon Wharrier (2) and Scott Weston netting for Senhouse.
