Ollie Banks knocked home a penalty to earn Barrow a deserved point against high flying Tranmere Rovers at The Dunes Hotel Stadium.
Unchanged from Tuesday’s excellent win at Northampton, Barrow were full value for coming back to draw 1-1 and could have grabbed the win with their late efforts.
A strong wind and driving rain caused problems for both sides so it was never a classic game of footbaIl although it did produce enough excitement for the 3,699 crowd.
Tranmere, lying second in the table, went in front when former Sunderland midfielder Josh Hawkes was allowed far too much space 20 yards out. There was nothing Paul Farman could do about the shot which was curled into the bottom corner.
The returning John Rooney was close to an equaliser when he got on the end of a fine cross from Patrick Brough but headed just over.
When Tranmere hit back it took a brave block by Tom Beadling to get in the way of an effort from Kane Hemmings after he got on the end of a clever pass from Kieron Morris.
Luke James, who has just signed a new contract with the Bluebirds, was involved in a good move with Rooney and Banks which ended in a cross for new recruit Aaron Amadi-Holloway to head wide.
Barrow were the livelier side in the second-half and drew level on 57 minutes when a cross struck a Tranmere hand inside the box and referee Oliver Langford pointed straight to the spot.
Banks, who lists Tranmere among his former clubs, calmly slotted home the equaliser from the spot.
Deadline day new signing Niall Canavan had the opportunity for a run-out after 72 minutes when he replaced the injured Beadling, and shaped confidently in the defence.
Farman was forced into an excellent save when a long-range effort could have squeezed home on 74 minutes but a full-length dive did the necessary.
It could have gone either way for when Rooney fired off a shot which looked was going in until Rovers keeper Ross Doohan turned it to safety.
It was Barrow who had the best chance when Anthony Glennon whipped in a fine cross to the far post for Amadi-Holloway but he headed over the bar.
The Barrow defence had to withstand late Tranmere pressure but did so manfully to ensure another precious point in the battle for League Two survival.
