Kendal will be back at Mint Bridge on Saturday on a recovery mission after recording two successive North One West defeats.
The loss at Brouughton Park was followed up with a hugely disappointing performance in a 25-14 defeat at Birkenhead Park.
It had started badly with the coach breaking down in Kendal and when eventually they got sorted out a late arrival meant the kick-off was delayed 15 minutes.
That might be given as an excuse for conceding a try in the first minute. The home kick-off was gathered and booted into touch but from the line-out Park were able to work the ball to centre Owain Davies. He broke a weak tackle before racing 40 metres to score and Dave Hall converted.
Although Kendal were able to enjoy some good possession they were unable to make it count through their handling errors.
On nine minutes Hall added to the Park lead when he kicked a penalty.
Park used the breeze to good effect and were able to keep Kendal penned in for long periods.
On 27 minutes they final made the pressure tell when their forwards drove deep into the Kendal before flanker Sean Mooney broke off to score the second try which Hall converted.
Kendal continued to struggle to curb errors and on two occasions they kicked to the home 22 but then failed to claim the line-out throws.
Then when Glen Weightman broke through he had good support on his left but opted for a pass to Lewis Kincart steaming up on the right and it went to ground.
To compound the error the hosts were able to add to their lead with a long range penalty by Hall which stretched their half-time lead to 20-0, even though they had a player yellow carded for a ruck offence just before the break.
Kendal were much more positive at the start of the second half but again they didn’t help their cause when fouling-up again at a line-out from a penalty.
On 45 minutes the visitors did manage to reduce the deficit. The forwards did well before moving the ball wide to Dan Shorrock who outpaced the cover to score. Chris Park converted.
It had become a regular occurrence by now and another attacking chance was lost for Kendal when they couldn’t control the ball following a penalty.
Right away it proved crucial because another Kendal error led to Park starting a series of pick and goes which eventually saw Paul Hellier go in for an unconverted try on 55 minutes.
Kendal also had to battle on for 10 minutes with 14 men when Dan Greenwood was yellow carded for something the referee had spotted in the build up to the third Park try.
Kendal started the second half well, but another chance was missed, when a lineout from a penalty was again lost.
Although Park continued to concede penalties, Kendal seemed at a loss to know what best to do and opportunities just didn’t develop as they should.
But into injury time Kendal managed a second try. Park conceded another penalty and Glen Weightman’s kick was chased by Lewis Kincart and after he collected was able to go round the home defence for a fine try which Park converted.
