Barrow’s appeal against the red card shown to Aaron Amadi-Holloway during Saturday’s game against Stevenage has failed.
The Bluebirds were reduced to 10 men early in the second half when the referee felt Amadi-Holloway’s challenge deserved a sending off.
The club subsequently lodged an appeal against the decision in the aftermath of the goalless draw at The Dunes Hotel Stadium and felt they had a good case for the red card to be rescinded.
However, the striker will now serve a three-match suspension which begins immediately after an independent panel upheld the referee’s decision to show the player a red card.
The forward, who has only recently joined Barrow on loan from Burton Albion will miss the next three games – Exeter City (away on Saturday), Harrogate (home on Saturday, February 26) and Bristol Rovers (away on Tuesday, March 2).
Meanwhile a former Barrow coach and Carlisle Utd manager has left Walsall following the appointment of Michael Flynn as the Saddlers’ new manager.
Neil McDonald worked at Holker Street during Rob Kelly’s time in charge and had joined Walsall as assistant to Matt Taylor, who was sacked last week.
McDonald had been in charge on Saturday when Walsall ended a long losing run of two months with a 1-0 win over Tranmere.
McDonald, 56, who played 180 games for Newcastle and a further 90 for Everton, managed Carlisle United in the 2006/07 season and led them to eighth in League One, their highest position for 20 years.
He was subsequently sacked at the start of the following season with the board saying at the time they had “lost confidence” in his leadership.
The incoming Flynn has signed a deal to manage the Saddlers until 2024 and is to bring in his own assistant.
Walsall are currently two places and a point better off than Barrow, who will entertain the Midlands side on March 5 – the first time they can welcome back Amadi-Holloway.
