Barrow’s game at Exeter City was postponed last night but there was still some good news for the fans.

Midfielder Tom White has pledged his future to the Bluebirds by putting pen to paper on a new deal to stay at The Dunes Hotel Stadium until the summer of 2024.

White played a key role in Barrow’s historic promotion from the National League in 2019/20 when he starred during a loan spell from Blackburn Rovers.

Barrow fans were delighted when White made a return last summer when he agreed a permanent switch following his departure from Ewood Park.

Still only 24, the former Gateshead player has made 29 appearances in all competitions so far during the current campaign and was a starter once again during last weekend’s draw with Stevenage.

“I think I have spoken before when we have extended other players’ contracts, that you want good characters and that’s what Tom is,” said boss Mark Cooper.

“He’s low maintenance and I don’t have to worry about him when he’s away from the place because he’s looks after himself, He’s a good pro, he works hard, and he is getting better.

“I know Tom is keen to keep improving and he’s enjoying the way we play so he came to see me and asked if he could extend his stay – that was a simple discussion and an easy one to get done.

“He never lets anyone down and you know he’s going to give you everything he’s got every time he goes on the pitch.

“Even if he’s not playing well, he will give his lot and that is really important, so we’re pleased that he’s going to be staying with us.”
