
Two teams from the Cumberland County League contested a quarter-final tie in the Cumberland Senior Cup when Pirelli entertained Workington Athletic.
It was the hosts who advanced to the semi-final stage, following a 5-1 victory. This is the fourth time the two teams have locked horns this season, with Athletic yet to claim a victory.
Pirelli ensured they advanced with goals from Luke Firth (2), Jordan Atkinson, Tom Lucock and Kieron Blair. Gareth Brunton pulled one back for Athletic.
Pirelli are now in the hat for the semi-final draw, along with the Northern League’s Carlisle City, Wetheriggs of the Westmorland League and Carlisle United.
In the County League’s Premier Division, Workington Reds Development visited Barton Laws to take on Wigton Harriers, and the game ended in a 1-1 stalemate.
Harvey Harrison scored for Wigton, with the Reds reply coming from Tom Houghton.
There were three games scheduled in the Division One Cup, but the Mirehouse home fixture with Whitehaven Amateurs Reserves fell foul of the weather.
UniSun’s run of good form continued with a 4-1 victory when they travelled to Silloth. Dave Nelson (2), Mike Williamson and David Barnes scored the goals for UniSun with Silloth reducing the arrears with a strike from Adam Carr.
In the battle of the Reserve squads, Cleator Moor Celtic came out victors in their tie against Windscale, easing to a 6-3 win.
Celtic’s Liam Johnston notched a hat trick with further goals from Ellis Trotter and Jamie Martin.
An unfortunate own goal completed the Celtic total. Windscale’s reply coming from Tony Nicholson with another hat trick.
