A Carlisle man caught with almost half a kilo of cannabis, along with plastic bags and weighing scales, has admitted he supplied the drug to others.
Kerry Simon Thompson, aged 25, appeared in front of a judge at the city’s crown court this morning (Monday).
Thompson pleaded guilty to two charges of possessing cannabis with intent to supply — once on December 10 of 2020, and also on March 22 last year.
The court heard Thompson was lightly convicted and would put forward a basis that, as a long-term cannabis user, he “facilitated” the illegal supply to friends who also used the drug.
His role, said lawyer Jeff Smith, was as a “meeting point for someone further up the line” who was providing the illegal substance. Mr Smith said Thompson’s instructions were also that he had not made a profit from the drug-dealing.
In response, a prosecutor said key elements of that “basis of plea” could not be accepted “in any shape or form”.
Judge Nicholas Barker adjourned the case for a week, giving Thompson the chance to formally reduce his basis of plea to writing. The judge observed that more than 400g had been recovered along with snap-bags, weighing scales and cash.
Thompson, of Lindisfarne Close, Carlisle, was granted unconditional bail by the judge, who asked for the preparation of a probation service background report.
Thompson is due to be sentenced for his offending at the crown court on March 21.
