Six schools are closed in Cumbria due to the damage caused by the weekend storms.

The county was battered by three storms over the weekend, leaving more than 2,500 properties without power and a number of roads either flooded or blocked by fallen trees.

The following schools are closed this morning:

Hawkshead Esthwaite Primary School is closed today as it has no electricity. It is expected to reopen tomorrow.

John Ruskin School, Coniston is closed today due to no power supply. It expects to reopen tomorrow.

Millom Infant School is closed today due to the bad weather. It aims to reopen tomorrow.

St Benedict’s Catholic High School, Whitehaven is closed today and is due to reopen its doors to students from tomorrow.

St James’ CofE Junior School, Barrow is closed today due to a radiator leak and subsequent flooding. It hopes to reopen tomorrow.

St Martin & St Mary CofE Primary School, Windermere is shut due to significant damage caused by the overnight storm conditions.
