An Aspatria man has been warned he could receive a prison sentence for involvement in cannabis supply spanning several months.
Aidan Smillie, 24, faced a raft of drugs charges when he appeared at Carlisle Crown Court today (February 22).
Smillie admitted being concerned in the supply of two class B substances — cannabis and cannabis resin — between September 18, 2019, and January 26, 2020.
His barrister, Judith McCullough, said those pleas were in relation to text messages “which show he was involved in the supply of cannabis throughout the period from September”.
Smillie denied the alleged possession of the same two controlled drugs with intent to supply, but pleaded guilty to alternative charges of simple possession of both. Cannabis was found on Smillie when he was searched at the Walkabout bar, on Carlisle’s Botchergate, on January 25, 2020, the court heard.
He further admitted simple possession of two class A controlled drugs — ecstasy and psilocin, also on that date.
Recorder Paul Hodgkinson said in view of the fact that Smillie, of Brayton Park, Aspatria, was “lightly convicted”, the case should be adjourned for the preparation of a probation service pre-sentence report.
The defendant was granted unconditional bail and is due to be sentenced at the crown court on March 22. Recorder Hodgkinson told Smillie “all options”, including a prison sentence, would be open to the judge on that date.
