Workington’s Station Road B have climbed to the top of the L&L Property Contractors Snooker League Division One.

It came on the back of a 5-0 home whitewash against Whitehaven Division Two side the Rack Shack.

As the previous Division One league leaders Workington Conservative Club were without a game, Station B took full advantage.

With wins from Shaun Ayre, Mark Tunstall, Peter O’Hagan, Kevin Kirkham and Stephen O’Hagan they left the Rack Shack stunned to move to the apex of the top division on 47 points.

The Rack Shack remain third in Division Two on 16 points.

The United Club ensured they maintained their eight-point lead at the top of Division Two with a 3-2 win against Division One’s Station Road A.

It was an excellent victory against their higher divisional opponents even though they went 2-1 down. Station A’s Tom Thompson and Mark Robertson proved victorious while Clive Lister posted the United Club’s win.

Undeterred the leaders powered to victory with wins from Andrew Mitchelhill and Dave Chapman to rock the Station A outfit.

A 3-2 away victory for Workington Golf Club in their all-Division One fixture against fellow townies the Veterans Club A ensured they kept third spot in the table on 34 points.

The golfers did the damage in the early part of the match as they went 2-0 up with victories from Bryan Walker and Ryan Ismay.

Vets A managed to pull one back for 2-1 but as Mark Brasted rallied to win the fourth the match win was secured.

A final frame point was still to play for, however, and as Vets A captain Kevin Basnett won the last a respectable 3-2 scoreline was delivered. Vets stay fourth in Division One on 32 points.

Finally, Veterans B travelled to Maryport Social and with a battling performance, the away side snatched a 3-2 win in the all-Division Two clash.

A victory for Paul Vickers gave Vets B a 1-0 advantage but in a solid display frame, two went Maryport’s way as Andrew Sharp levelled the score.

A 36 break from Sal Cakmak ensured Vets B took the lead at 2-1 but back came Maryport again with Gary Miller taking frame four for 2-2.

In the decider Vets B captain Geoff Banton made sure that the match victory was never in danger and with a commanding performance, he guided his team to a 3-2 match win.

Vets B sit on 27 points with Maryport on 16 points holding second and fourth places respectively in Division Two.
