Future of Workington Juniors looking hopeful

Prospects of a bright future for a junior football club at the Ranch in Workington are looking good.

Members and players from the Reds Juniors club members, seriously concerned that they would lose their home base, lobbied Workington Town Council at a meeting early this month.

The club’s future had been in doubt with the possibility of the ground being sold by the owner for development, but he had agreed to sell to the council.

At that meeting the council agreed to go ahead with the proposed purchase of the Ranch ground at Moss Bay which would enable the Workington Juniors to continue playing there.

Since then the town council has facilitated the plans to purchase the Ranch for use by the local community and the Junior Reds.

The council is in negotiations with the owner and the chairman of the Finance and General Purposes Committee is very hopeful that the deal will be done securing the Ranch for the good of all concerned.

The town council had said it wouldl initiate discussions with Allerdale Borough Council, Cumbria County Council, Cumberland FA and the Football Foundation to seek further support to enable Workington Juniors to have a sustainable future.

Reds Juniors have around 600 members and have used the Ranch as their base and home ground for over 20 years, with the local community looking to the Town Council to make sure that continues for many years to come.
