Hospice at Home West Cumbria are appealing for people to join its Step Forward for Hospice challenge in April, after last year’s event raised over £3,000 to support the charity’s vital work.
Step Forward for Hospice encourages supporters to put their best foot forward and sign up to raise sponsorship and walk a minimum of 10,000 steps every day throughout April.
Gemma Bell, fundraising co-ordinator for Hospice at Home West Cumbria, said: “With spring just around the corner, the Step Forward for Hospice challenge is a great way to get motivated, get out and enjoy nature and walk for a purpose! There are no age limits and anyone young or old can get involved. Walking is a great way to socialise, stay fit and active and can help to take care of your physical and mental wellbeing too.”
Gemma Scott, of Arlecdon, took part in last year’s challenge.
She said: “As a patient of Hospice at Home West Cumbria receiving lymphoedema treatment, I rely on a lot of help and support from the charity and thought it was a great opportunity to give a little back. It was a pleasure to be involved in the challenge as exercise is a huge benefit for Lymphoedema and one of the main factors in preventing the condition from worsening.”
Everyone that signs up to take part will receive a welcome pack with a branded hospice T-shirt and information and advice on how to get the best out of your challenge. Participants can register online through the charities website and set up their own fundraising page to go live on Friday April 1.
