A newsagent and Post Office is up for sale for the first time in more than 22 years.

Specialist business property adviser, Christie & Co, is offering for sale, Anderson News & Post Office in Shap, presenting an opportunity to acquire a well-established village convenience store and newsagent.

Owned and operated by David and Beverley Anderson for over 22 years, the store is heavily relied upon by the local community, with its popular range of homemade cakes, sandwiches, pasties and sausage rolls regularly attracting passing traffic and visitors to the area, as the shop is situated along the Coast to Coast walker’s route.

The store also stocks a varied range of goods and provides additional services within the village, such as newspaper and magazine deliveries, milk deliveries and a comprehensive range of Post Office services as it is a Local Plus Branch.

David and Beverly have taken the decision to sell to retire and enjoy the surrounding countryside.

They said: “We moved from Lancashire 22 years ago and have never looked back. We will remain in Shap once we retire as it offers us the relaxed lifestyle we desire.

“Buying the shop has allowed us to bring up our family in a safe and secure environment and has afforded us a great lifestyle and financial security from day one of trading. We feel that new owners will be able to expand the business easily and enhance the existing core products and services, within a large spacious building.

“We will be more than happy to help out the new owners for as long as they need us, to ensure that they settle in well to the village and therefore enabling a smooth takeover and the continued success of the current business model.”

Gurnham Singh, Business Agent in Christie & Co’s Retail team is handling the sale and added: “Anderson News & Post Office has become a real community hub under David and Beverly’s ownership, which is a fantastic platform for a new owner to build on. There is significant potential to increase turnover by extending the trading floor area, increasing the opening hours and introducing an off-license.

“The business would suit a hands-on operator looking for a slower pace of life amongst the beautiful countryside or a first-time buyer looking to acquire their first convenience store and Post Office. I look forward to hearing from interested parties.”
