Workington Diamonds shone through in their latest Junior game at Cleator Moor Celtic where the respective Under-8s served-up an entertaining clash.
It was just part of another busy day for local amateur photographer, Elwyn Evans, who does great work for the Cumbria Crack around the sporting scene.
The day had started, as it has regularly this year, by following another charity run by marathon man Gary McKee in his bid to run 365 marathons in 2022.
Elwyn has been tracking Gary’s progress through his camera lens as the intrepid runner looks to raise £1 million for Macmillan Cancer Support and Hospice at Home, West Cumbria.
It will be a remarkable record by December 31 of one of the most arduous endurance tests set by a British runner.
So after taking his latest crop of photos en-route with the man who has quickly become a Cleator Moor legend Elwyn called in on the junior game at Cleator.
The Under-8s are in their first real season of inter-club football, after so much was affected by COVID, and clearly enjoying it.
The Diamonds, a young club on the up and based on the old Coronation BC pitch at Moss Bay, Workington – now rechristened the Den – were 4-1 winners with all four goals from seven-year-old Kylan Newton.
Girls are increasingly involved in junior football and some of them play alongside the boys in this age group. Indeed it was one of Celtic’s young girls, Sadie Gail who scored their goal.
Then it was off to Wath Brow to take in the Hornets’ opening game in the National Conference Premier Division against Lock Lane of Castleford.
Elwyn has become a regular on the touchline, recording Wath Brow’s triumphs, and they opened with a good win to suggest they are going to be challenging for honours again this season.
Cumbria Crack is grateful for the number of keen amateur photographers who regularly supply us with their pictures from the area’s sporting scene. Thank you!
