A charity ball, held two years after it was first organised, has raised almost £5,000.
Emma Walmsley was just 17 when she started to arrange the event to raise cash for Reverse Rett, which supports people with Rett Syndrome.
The syndrome is a neurological condition and Emma was moved to arrange a fundraising drive after meeting two youngsters with it and realising there was very little cash going into research and support.
The ball was due to be held in 2020 at the Cumbria Grand Hotel in Grange-over-Sands. It had to be postponed due to coronavirus and was finally held on Saturday.
Over 200 people attended and it raised £4,852.
Emma said: “This event was a massive success with UnderDogs the band playing, Lucy Sattherwaite singing on arrival and to finish the evening off DJ Marwood played – we convinced him to come out of retirement after five years.
“A massive thank you to everyone for their patience for this event to happen. I had amazing support this really wouldn’t of happened without the amazing support from lots of businesses.
“Rett syndrome is a rare genetic neurological disorder that occurs almost exclusively in girls and leads to severe impairments, affecting nearly every aspect of the child’s life: their ability to speak, walk, eat, and even breathe easily.
“I decided to help and try and make a difference.”
