Scott McLean, of the University Hospitals of Morecambe Bay NHS Foundation Trust

A new chief operating officer has been appointed at the health trust in charge of South Cumbria’s hospitals.

Scott McLean will join the University Hospitals of Morecambe Bay NHS Foundation Trust in July.

His role is to ensure consistent quality care for patients at Furness General Hospital in Barrow, Westmorland General Hospital in Kendal and the Royal Lancaster Infirmary.

The trust also manages community hospitals and Ulverston Community Health Centre.

Scott trained as a nurse in 1992 in Scotland, was divisional director of nursing at Barts Health NHS Trust in London and has been executive chief nurse and chief operating officer at Fife.

He was also previously director of children’s and women’s services and managing director at the University Hospital of Wales in Cardiff.

Scott said: “I am keen to get started in post and take forward the good work already started by teams across the trust.

“I’m also keen to do what I can to support the wider health and care system as we make further improvements in safety, quality, financial sustainability, integrated working and performance, and access to our services for people across Lancashire and South Cumbria.”
