Plans have been submitted to Allerdale council for new office units built in Cockermouth.
Allerdale Borough Council has received a planning application for office units on Low Road from the owners of The Fitz, a country retreat located in the town.
The site set for development is a 0.57 hectare section of land located to the west of The Laureates.
It has previously been used as a contractor compound in association with The Laureates housing development, it is at a lower level with the housing development to the east and the A66 to the south.
The application has been submitted in outline, more detailed plans will need to be approved by the planning panel at a later date so the scale of the development is not set.
But a design and access statement submitted by the applicant reads: “The site will be developed with either single or two-storey office units.
“It is anticipated that there will be sufficient flexibility to allow for a number of smaller units to serve small and start-up businesses together with larger units for a key tenant or developing businesses.
“The units will be of functional design with render walls, grey tile roofs and powder coated aluminium doors and windows. Car parking will be provided commensurate with the unit.”
The development involves creating a junction with a pedestrian refuge on Low Road to improve highway safety.
The applicant believes the development will bring net gains helping “to build a strong, responsive and competitive economy, by ensuring the sufficient land of all types
is available in the right places at the right time to support growth, innovation and improve productivity.”
