Copeland MP Trudy Harrison is inviting members of the deaf community to a dedicated surgery next month.

Mrs Harrison is holding a one-hour session, with a British Sign Language interpreter in attendance, to give the opportunity for constituents who are deaf to raise issues and ask questions.

The surgery will take place in Whitehaven on Saturday, April 2 from noon to 1pm.

Mrs Harrison is co-ordinating the surgery with the support of Cumbria Deaf Association, which will also have representatives in attendance.

Mrs Harrison said: “It is important that every member of the Copeland constituency has the opportunity to meet their Member of Parliament and to ask their questions and raise issues of concern.

“I’d like to thank Cumbria Deaf Association for their support in organising the surgery and I very much look forward to meeting attendees on April 2.”

Caroline Howsley, general manager of Cumbria Deaf Association, added: “With the BSL Act moving through Parliament, it is a great step forward that Mrs Harrison has set aside time for a dedicated surgery for the deaf community in Copeland.

“Everything that can be done to ensure that the deaf community, across all generations, is included in discussions about their region is essential. We are pleased to be able to support Mrs Harrison in developing more inclusivity in her work.”

Attendance at the surgery must be booked before the March 25 deadline. For more information and to book a place, contact Mrs Harrison on 01229 718333 or Trudy.harrison.mp@parliament.uk.

Alternatively, book a place with Cumbria Deaf Association on 01228 210205 or office@cumbriadeaf.org.uk
