More than 5,100 pupils from 35 schools have helped raise £46,000 for Jigsaw, Cumbria’s children’s hospice.
The first ever Reindeer Run took place at schools during December and raised £46,740.93 for the hospice.
Schools were provided with their own fundraising packs and devisied their own run, walk or event.
The response to the inaugural event was so good it is hoped that it can run again later this year.
Suzanne Garbarino-Danson, clinical lead at Jigsaw, which is based in Durdar Road, Carlisle, said: “On behalf of the amazing team here at Jigsaw, I’d like to say a heartfelt thank you to everyone who took part in the Reindeer Run and all the kind people who sponsored the children.
“The money raised will help us continue to provide love, care and support for children and young people with life-limiting illnesses from across Cumbria as well as their families.”
The care offered by the Jigsaw team wouldn’t be possible without the generosity of the local community who fundraise for hospice all year round. In total the charity needs to raise £2,126.46 to pay for all the care services for a day.
Vicki Lesley, from the fundraising team, said: “I’d like to thank all of the schools for taking part and making the event such a big success. We tried to attend as many of the events as possible and we were overjoyed to see so many smiling faces and so much creativity on display, with many schools really thinking outside the box when planning their event. We look forward to seeing you again next year.”
Carlisle Glass Longhorn co-sponsored the event and supplied medals which were awarded to qualifying schools.
