Workington Town have rearranged their Betfred Championship home game with Halifax Panthers for Sunday, March 27.
The original game was postponed last month because of worsening weather conditions after the pitch had earlier passed an inspection.
The Halifax team coach had been warned there might be a need for further updates before it set off for West Cumbria – and was later halted en route.
With both clubs out of the Challenge Cup it made sense to fit it in on the weekends of the sixth round.
The one proviso was that Town didn’t want to go head-to-head with Whitehaven’s glamour home tie with St Helens but when that was fixed for the Saturday there was no need to delay and the Sunday clash has been confirmed.
Meanwhile the amateur clubs are doing their best to allow their players to see the game by re-arranging their games.
Hensingham and Millom have switched their NCL Third Division game to June while Distington and Lowca will play their Holmen Iggesund Cumberland League game on the Friday night.
As one club official said: “It’s not everyday that one of the world’s best teams plays in your own backyard and the local lads want to see them.”
